Dr. Tomohiro Tachi
Presentation Title: Designing Rigid Origami Structures

Status and Affiliation

  • Assistant Professor
  • The University of Tokyo
  • Graduate School of Arts and Sciences

Tomohiro Tachi is an origamist and a researcher in geometry and graphics. He studied architecture and received his doctoral degree in engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan. Since 2010, he is an assistant professor at the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He has been designing origami from 2002 and keeps exploring three-dimensional and kinematic origami through computation. He developed origami software tools including "rigid origami simulator", "origamizer", and "freeform origami", which are available from his website. His research interests include origami, structural engineering, architectural design, and fabrication. He has developed fundamental theory in the area of rigid origami and its application to architecture.
